Pupil Leadership Opportunities

At Redmile CE Primary School, we believe that leadership skills can be developed from an early age.

By encouraging children to take responsibility, share ideas and make a positive difference, we help them build the confidence, resilience and communication skills they need to succeed both in school and beyond.

Our pupil leadership programmes empower children to become active members of the school community while promoting our Christian values of friendship, perseverance, forgiveness and respect.

School Council

Our School Council gives every child a voice.

Each year group elects a representative, with Year 6 pupils taking on the roles of President and Vice President.

The School Council works closely with staff and senior leaders to discuss ideas, gather feedback and help shape school life.

Projects and responsibilities include:

  • Eco-projects and sustainability initiatives
  • Anti-bullying campaigns
  • Learning walks and pupil voice activities
  • Fundraising events and competitions
  • Promoting playtime safety
  • Managing the pupil suggestions box
  • Welcoming visitors to the school

School Council members develop valuable leadership, communication and organisational skills while ensuring all pupils feel heard and represented.

Sports Ambassadors

Our Sports Ambassadors promote active lifestyles and encourage participation in sport across the school.

Working alongside staff, they help to organise and lead activities such as:

  • Golden Mile running
  • Fun lunchtime challenges
  • Visual athletics events
  • Sports leadership activities
  • Annual tennis festivals

Sports Ambassadors also support younger pupils by helping to deliver activities for Key Stage 1 children.

Through this role, pupils develop teamwork, responsibility and coaching skills.

Worship Leaders

Year 6 pupils take pride in their role as Worship Leaders, helping to plan and deliver daily collective worship.

Working closely with staff, Worship Leaders:

  • Prepare assemblies and worship sessions
  • Organise music and hymns
  • Update the collective worship display
  • Evaluate worship activities
  • Promote the school's Christian values

This role helps pupils develop confidence, public speaking skills and a deeper understanding of spirituality and leadership.

Club Leaders

We encourage child-led learning and creativity through our Club Leaders programme.

Pupils are supported to organise and run their own lunchtime and breaktime clubs based on their interests and talents.

Popular clubs include:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Drama
  • Dance
  • Chess
  • Cheerleading

By planning and leading activities for their peers, Club Leaders develop initiative, independence and teamwork.

Developing Future Leaders

Our leadership opportunities help children build essential life skills, including:

  • Communication and teamwork
  • Confidence and resilience
  • Problem-solving and decision-making
  • Organisation and responsibility
  • Empathy and respect for others

By providing meaningful opportunities to lead, we empower pupils to become confident, compassionate and responsible citizens who are ready to make a positive contribution to their communities.
